Meet our Doctors

Jessica Herman, DVM

Rotating Veterinarian

Jessica Herman, DVM

On January 1st, 2017, I made a life-changing leap and moved to the small Caribbean island of St. Kitts to attend veterinary school. Though the island had its challenges—not to mention the difficulty of veterinary school curriculum—the 2.5 years spend in the Caribbean allowed me to achieve my dream of becoming a DVM. Believe me, it wasn’t all tropical drinks on the beach! At the same time, I was able to start a musical theatre club at Ross, directing and producing a cabaret fundraiser and a full length musical. The cast, crew, and musicians were all Ross University students and faculty. We were part of a small group of dedicated individuals spending our few hours of free time bringing music to the RUSVM and greater St. Kitts communities. This experience in team building, work-life balance, and artistic expression allowed us to grow both personally and professionally.

As a Cleveland native, I elected to spend my final year of veterinary school in the Midwest at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Rotating through the various specialty departments confirmed my desire to pursue advanced training after graduation. After a year spent in the beautiful city of Madison, I am very excited to spend the next year in Washington, D.C. with my island pup, Keno, and my 22 year old calico cat, Sasha!

Clinical Areas of Interest

After completing my intern year at FHA, I plan to pursue a residency in Small Animal Internal Medicine. I am deeply interested in hematology, endocrinology, pharmacology, and critical case management.

Why Did You Work at Friendship?

Friendship Hospital for Animals has a great reputation not just for patient care, but also for training veterinarians. After hearing about the internship program from former interns, I was very excited to spend the year learning from the incredible team at FHA. I am especially looking forward to spending time with the hemodialysis team to learn how and when this treatment can be used to help my future patients!
