Friendship Surgical Specialists

Friendship Surgical Specialists (FSS)- the only veterinary surgical specialist group based within the borders of Washington DC. The FSS is a specialty surgery group located within Friendship Hospital for Animals and was started in July of 2010 by Dr. Mathieu Glassman VMD DACVS.

Dr. Glassman is 2004 graduate of The University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. He completed a rotating small animal internship at The Ohio State University in 2005 and a surgical internship in Hollywood Florida in 2006. Dr. Glassman completed a residency in small animal surgery at The University of Georgia in 2010, followed by a clinical orthopedic instructorship in 2011 at UGA. Dr. Glassman became a diplomat of The American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2011 upon successfully completing the surgical board examination in January of 2011.

FSS offers convenience, availability, and expertise for the veterinary client, in addition to support and exceptional communication for the general practitioner. We recognize the importance of good communication with your pet’s regular veterinarian, in maintaining your pet in the best health leading up to and after surgery. FSS also teams with the Friendship Hospital Emergency Surgery Service when needed for advanced emergency surgical support.

We are very excited to bring board certified surgical care to Friendship Hospital on a full-time basis allowing us to offer cutting edge veterinary surgery to the Washington DC pet population. Services offered include advanced fracture management, stifle disease (including cruciate rupture and patella disease), airway surgery, abdominal surgery and oncological surgery. Oncological services are complemented by The Oncology Service (TOS) at Friendship Hospital. We offer surgical consultations when clients and animals have appointments with TOS for cancer evaluation.
