Senior kitty -- still acting young! (no replies)

My cat Wheatena will celebrate her 17th birthday next month -- and sometimes she still acts like a kitten!

OK, maybe not quite as crazy as a kitten, but she still loves to play with her catnip mouse. Sometimes she'll start batting it around without me even throwing it to her. Not bad for a cat who is probably the human equivalent of about 90 years old!

Each morning when I feed her, I toss her a couple of Greenies (the kind for cats, of course). She chases after each one and gobbles it up.

Our daily "Greenie toss" fun for both of us, and it's a good way for me to check in on how she's feeling. On the rare occasion that she doesn't chase after her favorite snack, I know to keep an extra careful eye on her. I've headed off a couple of health incidents this way.

The Infinite Meal (1 reply)

Zephyr is working on this one. In addition to the regular bowlfuls, Zephyr, my eight month old toy poodle puppy, finds that just about anything is or may be edible depending on how you look at it. Shoes are particularly appetizing and dog regulars, as are pencils, newspapers, books and other items that humans strangely don't comprehend, for all their higher intelligence, as wonderful chews. They waste these items on other activities, even going so far as to take perfect edibles and put them on their two large hind paws and go walking around with them! Pencils they grasp in their forepaws, newspapers they look at, books, which have a most adorable smell, they open and stick before their noses--can you imagine? And they are not enticed at all to bite the binding or a page--perhaps by the sad mischance of the relatively undeveloped nose of the human. Outside the infinite meal continues: Oh joy to put one's nose deep into fresh mulch and come up with a mouthful. Then there are leaves and sticks--on and on he rhapsodizes...

to be continued.
